Is College Worth It? Well that depends on who you ask. Some people still feel like college is the only option to a great job and life. Others feels like college is a waste of time and money. In 2105, 57 percent of Americans felt very confident in higher education. That confidence has dropped today, to under 35 percent of americans feel that college is the answer to a long lasting profitable career.
Researchers say that college enrollment has shrunk in America to 2.5 million since 2010. Some say the reasons are directly related to COVID Forced Government shutdowns (considered major factor), rising tuition and tight job markets.
We all know that for many year our parents made it a point to get us thinking about college and getting a good job and life would be great. Parents still talk to their kids about going to college. As a matter of fact if kids were like me I looked forward and even planned to go to college.
Some of us wanted to go to college because our parents were part of a certain alumni. My sister on the other hand wanted no parts of college as a matter of fact she almost did not high school without some nudging. Besides my parents could not afford to send any of us kids to college. It didn’t stop them from wanting it for us!
I said that to say that in the times that we are currently living is not the world I grew up in. My grandchildren could care less about going to college. My eldest granddaughter dropped out of college in less than a year, she started modeling and hasn’t look back to college at all. My two youngest grandson TJ and King are aspiring Youtuber Content creators, they have not ruled out going to college or online courses. My guess would be online courses. When they want to learn how, what, when and how do anything their usual response it I will look it up or watch a video.
The point is what do you want to do and what are you looking to accomplish. If your goal is to become a doctor, lawyer or a profession that requires a degree then that my friend is a knowbrainer, college of course! However, if your goal is to be a hairstylist that would be better accomplished in my opinion by going to a trade school to get your certification rather than going to college.
Another aspect to look at would be how soon you want to accomplish your goal and most importantly at what cost. How much are you going to pay?
I went to a trade school for radio and television broadcasting and found that I was able to afford it and at the end I would be able to get placement by the school upon completion in as little as 8 months. I wanted so much to get a full ride to a university but life had other things in mind. That’s a story for another day. I can tell you that tuition has continued to climb higher and higher and without the colleges adding any additional value to their education curriculums.

According to the Center of Education (CET) the average cost of earning a bachelor’s degree is approximately $132,000, significantly higher than the cost of trade school education. Where as the average cost of earning a trade skill is around $33,000, making it a more affordable option compared to a four-year degree.
