Blockchain wallet is it the same as your leather wallet, you might ask? Well in a lot of ways they are similar and also very different. The creation of Bitcoin the first cryptocurrency by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008 used the Blockchain method and did not need a bank. Blockchain is a shared notebook that hold your coins. That is what’s called the Blockchain wallet.
It’s like a super-powered notebook that can cannot be messed with by scammers. The wallet is like a digital keyring with secret codes that prove you are the owner of the private key. When it first started desktop wallets was it. In an effort for more security, phone apps and browser extensions were created. Now, hardware wallets like Ledger or Trezor, and Coinbase were created for extra safety.
A blockchain wallet is like a digital backpack or piggy bank that allows you:
- Hold your cryptocurrency (like Bitcoin or Ethereum)
- Store your tokens (like NFTs or rewards)
- Send and receive money on the blockchain
Ok, let’s imagine the blockchain is the notebook where everyone sees what you own…But only you have the key to your locker the wallet where your coins lives.
If you are wondering if this is just about money, then think again. It’s about digital independence, smart ownership, and future careers in Web3, coding, finance, and storytelling. Oh no it is much more, consider: Ownership allows you to not only just use apps, but own part of them. It also gives you the Freedom to not to have to worry about hidden charges or getting your account frozen. Value this will add real value and enhance talent in art, music, coding worlds. And let’s not forget about the Power that gives you with the ability to learn and earn.
When these wallets were opened it leveled the playing field for everyone to own their value. It was not just for rich people or bankers anymore! We can now, all get a piece of the pie. Bridging The Gap, Paying It Forward…that my friends is Amazing! Right?
Before researching this category, I steered away because for me, at first glance it seemed to be too much for my brain to comprehend at the time. I had even tried to work remotely for a company doing blockchain and simply could not comprehend what the young lady was saying. However, turns out it’s not that intimidating, I was able finally understand that a Blockchain is the public record everyone sees it and the Wallet is your private keys to control what’s yours and only you can use them.
Understanding Blockchain / Wallet / Token:
| Thing | What it does | Analogy |
|---|---|---|
| Blockchain | The big public notebook (records everything) | Class ledger everyone can see |
| Wallet | Your private key to access your stuff | Your own locker or backpack |
| Crypto/Token | What you actually own | Money or collectibles |
Don’t Confuse Blockchain Wallet with a Digital Wallet
They are relative but not quite the same.
* Blockchain Wallet Holds your crypto (like Bitcoin, Ethereum) or NFTs. It allows you to send and receive value directly. It works on blockchain networks and you own the keys; you’re the bank.
*Digital Wallet ( Apple Pay or Google Pay) Holds your debit/credit card info and allows you pay for stuff like groceries, gas, clothes. You are connected to your bank and regular money which is called Fiat. Easy to for you to use, but it is controlled the system. Look at it like this: A blockchain wallet pays with crypto you control and A digital wallet pays with bank money.
Blockchain Wallet is Our Future: ENTERS COINBASE
I was like most people who didn’t understand how to buy Bitcoin. And how it worked. It seemed too hard and you would need a degree to get started! Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam, founded Coinbase in San Francisco in 2012 to make crypto easy and safe for everyone. That was their mission, and their mission has been accomplished. I understand stand it better. Do you? Or just a little better
They created the a platform where anyone could create an account (as simple as signing up for email). You just link your card or account. Now you are set up to buy Bitcoin and other coins. Use a simple wallet CoinBase to hold it. Coinbase acted like a crypto bank, helping folks get started safely.
Coinbase is a company and a platform that allows you to buy, sell, and store cryptocurrency. It’s like a crypto bank or exchange. You can use Coinbase to create a wallet, but it’s what we call a “custodial wallet”. The wallet helps to manage your crypto for you. It’s kind of like the app store for digital money. It’s where you get started, buy coins, and even learn.
Brian and Fred’s vision was developed in a tiny apartment. And their goal was to make it safe, easy to use. It was also a place where people using their creation could learn and grow. Feeling at ease using the platform and sharing it with others. The platform has been very successful and for anyone sigining into the platform they receive free BitCoin, $20 dollars worth.
Bridging The Gap Online Community uses blockchain wallet with COINBASE ( you should set up – its the best way to learn more. You get $20 in BTC just for joining).

I will follow this up with more information to familiarize yourself with staked coins. They are able to gain in rewards, usually in additional coin as the staking is occurring. Similar to a bank bond or Certificate on Deposit. Used to create and leverage the creation of additional Crypto Coins. I told you digging deeper you can start to get confused however it is better than you could ever imagine. Keep educating yourself.
Coinbase offers staked coins, and the option to “Stake” or hold your coins for gains. You basically agree to lock them, you will not be able to sell or transfer them. Since they are staked they hold the value of the COIN itself. You get a APY or Annual Percentage Yield as you would with a Bond or Savings Account for holding them. These are ranging from 0.01 to sometimes 25 percent or more. The ones supported within Coinbase generally have proven to be more safe. But risk is always involved with investments and that includes staking.
This is a smart platform to start with and once you sign up, you just may want to share your finds with your friends and family. COINBASE has been a trusted for many years by beginners and the experienced. There are several competitors in the wallet space out there. And they all have their set purposes and resource within blockchain. We can all look forward to cryptocurrency and the growing digital future that is in store for us all including and especially our kids.
Wouldn’t it be next level to design a new kind of wallet just for kids or perhaps even build a game where tokens give real rewards? This would give them a start or stepping stone in learning about how this digital phenomenon works.
Remember back in the day when we had a lemonade stand in the front yard. For every cup of lemonade I sold I collected 25 cents and at the end of the day every cup was accounted for but my older sister would make her way into my secret hiding place, that did not turn out to be a secret at all. She would help herself and I was helpless against her. I still loved her though, she got on my last nerve. She was older and made sure we knew it.
Now imagine me starting my lemonade stand but rather than money I accepted crypto instead. I would have my own blockchain wallet, my earnings would be safe from anyone taking them without my permission. Maybe you are the kid the aspires to really giving value by teaching your whole neighborhood how to use the blockchain safely. That would be cool. I think that there are going to be several possibilities for our children in the world of cryptocurrency.
